Food to Eat on a Daily Basis
This is one of those questions which tend to haunt us the most. We feel like we know the answer to it but still slip up quite often. It is always fun to watch scenes where parents are scolding their children because they do not eat their due veggies. It is only after watching such scenes; do we realize how wrong our lifestyle is.
For some junk foods like a choice. They prefer having nachos, burritos, burgers, pizza, and whatnot. For others, it can be the only option. This can the case for working professionals. After all, not all canteens offer fresh apples and oranges to its employees. Still, the fact remains, if you do not correct your habits, sooner or later you are bound to end up with conditions like diabetes, blood pressure, hypertension, and obesity. So what kind of foods should you eat on a daily basis?
Junk Food?
We have been listening to this since forever, right? “Don’t Eat Junk Food!”, “Junk Foods are bad for your Health!” and so on. But how many of us actually listen to that? The truth is when you are at work, sometimes, Junk Food like burger and pizzas are the only option available.
Some tend to think that it is all about the carbohydrate intake. That if you can somehow balance that out, you can pull it off. Then there are those who try to defend their habit by saying that pizzas, burgers, chow mein, and other junk food contain vegetables and meat as well, how come they are so unhealthy?
The problem is that it is not just about the carbohydrate intake; it is not about meat or vegetables in junk foods. The concept of a balanced diet involves an equivalent amount of proteins and nutrients.
That is not provided by fast foods. Moreover, you have to take into account the quality of oil used for frying, while most reputable outlets make sure to check their oil quality, how far can you risk your health just for a good taste?
Fruits and Vegetables
The classic favor ite of parents. How many times have you been admonished for not eating your veggies? It seemed like your parents became cruel dictators when it came to eating fruits and vegetables.
While fruits and vegetables may lack the luster presented by pizzas, they are certainly healthier. This is the reason why bodybuilders prefer fruits and veggies along with the meat for their daily protein intake.
You also do not need to worry about the quality of oil, how long the fruits or veggies have been preserved ( well there’s a limit to that), or about the required nutrient intake. They are a better and cleaner choice for foods, which is why most health experts and yoga gurus recommend a daily serving of fresh fruits and vegetables instead of munching on chips and hotdogs.
There is, however, one thing you need to understand. There is no truth to “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”. while apples do have a healthy content of Vitamin C and promote various body functions, the proverb does not mean taking an apple every day in a literal context. What it says is that having fruits on a daily basis can help you maintain good health.
Low-Fat Dairy Products
Dairy Products are generally looked down upon because of the fat content. Keeping that aside, almost all dairy products are rich in calcium and nutrients. Milk and milk-based products offer a very good quantity of other minerals like vitamin D and vitamin B12. This is helpful for growing children as it not only helps in cognitive development but also bone growth.
That being said, there are those who are lactose intolerant or allergic to milk. For them, it is a kind of hell. So what should you do when it comes to dairy products? Assuming that you are neither a growing child nor a lactose intolerant person the obvious choice would be to go for low-fat dairy products.
Why Low fat you ask? Because milk products like butter and cheese contain a high level of carbohydrates. Even the milk you consume can have a high-fat content. If you want to get all the goodness of milk and avoid putting on more weight, then you should definitely choose low-fat milk and cheese.
Another reason you might want to choose low-fat dairy products is that calcium has shown to have a hand in breaking down fat. So, if you go for low-fat dairy products which offer just as much calcium and vitamin D as their full-fat counterparts, you actually stand a good chance of losing weight.
Nuts Nutrition
There is a misconception that nuts can make you fat. The truth is that while nuts do have a certain amount of fat in them, their fat type falls on the good side. Moreover, nuts are regarded as a very good source of nutrients and fiber.
There is a wide variety of nuts like macadamia nuts, peanuts, pistachio nuts and Brazil nuts, hazelnuts and so on. Macadamia nuts are regarded as one of the best kinds of nuts. This is because macadamia nuts have shown to lower cholesterol. This is particularly beneficial for those who suffer from heart ailments. Almonds are a good source for Vitamin E. it is recommended by doctors to growing children.
So, if you want to go on a low-fat diet, you can always turn to nuts for nutrition. After all, nuts are placed in the same group as meat and poultry products when it comes to dietary contents.
Fibre Rich Food
Of all things, why would we ever recommend fiber-rich food? The reason is that fiber-rich foods like avocado, apple, pears, and cucumber can aid in digestion. If you want to have a healthy diet, then it is ideal to end your meals with something rich in fiber.
Fiber-rich foods not only give you a sense of being full, but they are also good for the heart. They have anti-inflammatory effects and can help prevent conditions like blood pressure. Our body cannot actually digest fibrous foods. This is why fiber-rich foods can help regulate bowel movements as well.
This is why doctors always recommend having a serving of apple and other fiber-rich fruits and vegetables.
