Acid Reflux
Acid reflux is one of those pesky disorders which can leave you with a foul mood. Typically, acid refluxes are caused when the acid in your stomach escapes into your esophagus. It is common knowledge that our stomach flu contains a diluted form of hydrochloric acid. To prevent it from destroying the food tube wall (or the inner lining of the esophagus), there is a muscle placed in between. It only opens when food is passed into the stomach.
Under some conditions, this muscle can relax which might cause the acid to burn the inner lining. This gives us a feeling of burning around our hearts. If you eat too much spicy food, then you are sure to get heartburn. This is caused by acid reflux symptoms. There are some precautions that those suffering from acid refluxes should take.
Vegetables
Unfortunately, when it comes to acid reflux, there are many healthy vegetables that you need to avoid. The main thing to note here is that you need to avoid taking food which contains a high amount of fat. This can also apply to vegetables.
It is best to avoid spicy food. If you take vegetables which have a high-fat content, it can cause acid reflux in two ways. Firstly, it can cause the muscles in your stomach which prevents the acid from rising to relax. Or they may cause the secretion of a hormone that has the same effect. Either way, the relaxation of this muscle is what causes the acid on your stomach to rise and give you that feeling of something burning inside you.
This sensation is also known as heartburn, as you may know by now. It is common in patients suffering from acid refluxes. There are vegetables like green leafy vegetables which can help you avoid getting heartburn. Ironically enough, even though potatoes have a high carbohydrate content, studies have shown that consuming potatoes can decrease your chances of having acid reflux by half. Nature does work in mysterious ways.
Avoid Garlic
Garlic is one of the best natural remedies known to man. Doctors recommend garlic if you are suffering from gout as it can abate the uric acid formation. There are numerous other health benefits associated with garlic. One of the major health pros that garlic has is that it reduces blood pressure. Consuming garlic can lead to lower chances of cardiovascular diseases. Some studies have shown that it can increase insulin activity. This is why diabetics can consume garlic regularly. The main component to thank here is allicin – a compound formed in garlic.
But when it comes to acid refluxes, the story is completely reversed. Garlic can cause acid reflux. There are other vices of taking garlic as well. The major reason why doctors do not recommend garlic to people suffering from acid refluxes is that most studies have shown that consuming garlic can lead to heartburn, which is a sign of acid reflux.
There are other cons of consuming garlic as well. One of the most popular ones is the unbearable smell. Garlic does not smell. But when you slice or smash a piece of garlic, the mixing of compounds in garlic leads to this kind of smell. Garlic can also lead to poor digestion health on some accounts.
Oatmeal works wonders against constipation
