CORONAVIRUS CAUSES AND SYMPTOMS

Coronavirus (CoV) refers to the set of common viruses that are known to cause various diseases in humans, birds, and animals. These viruses date back to the 1960s and they’re right now a hot topic of concern worldwide. In humans, CoV can cause respiratory infections in the sinuses, throat, and nasal cavity. Although, most of these viruses are considered to be non-critical, yet others can be life-threatening. There were two main types of CoV before 2020 i.e. SARS & MERS. Here are the most common symptoms of coronavirus that everyone must be aware of.

Common coronavirus causes and symptoms

  1. Excessive drainage from the nose
  2. Cough
  3. Common cold
  4. Sore throat
  5. Difficulty in breathing
  6. Fever
  7. Headaches
  8. Feeling ill

Like most other common infections such as common cold, coronaviruses also spread through physical touch & respiratory responses. For instance, an infected person sneezing or coughing near you can cause this viral infection. Also, by touching the hands or face of an infected person, you can get infected. Lastly, touching various things that have been touched by the infected people can also pass on this viral infection.

Now let’s check out the history of Coronavirus, along with its diagnosis, treatment & tips to prevent yourself from this life-threatening virus.

History of coronavirus

The coronaviruses were first detected in the 1960s, which affected the nasal cavity of 2 persons suffering from the common cold. After that, there have been many cases critical and non-critical cases of these viruses. For instance, there were 774 deaths due to the breakout of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). 858 people were reported to have died because of MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) in the year 2012. The countries that were mainly affected by MERS were Saudi Arabia, Middle Eastern Countries, Africa, Europe, and Asia. In 2014, two American people were admitted to the hospital because of MERS. After this, 2015 was marked to be the year of the biggest breakout of MERS in Korea.

The current situation

Since 2015, there were no more cases of MERS & SARS until January 2020. In the early days of January 2020, the WHO detected and reported a new type of coronavirus known as the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV). China is the known country of origin for this virus and more than 1000 people are reportedly suffering from it. According to the reports, the death count in China is currently 82, which is continuously rising. This is why all the countries are taking measures to prevent 2019-nCoV from spreading.

Diagnosis of coronavirus

The diagnosis of coronaviruses involves lab tests of the throat, nasal cavity, and blood of the person. Although, there is no benefit of getting it tested because the treatment is the same as common viral infections. Mostly the symptoms disappear in some days, but in some cases, the symptoms might become worse due to an underlying problem. In severe cases, the infection might spread down into the respiratory organs and lead to pneumonia. Old-aged people and people with poor immunity are more prone to severe CoV infections.

Treatment

Currently, there is no vaccination to treat 2019-nCoV. If you’re experiencing the symptoms, then it is highly recommended for you to get immediate assistance from a medical professional. However, you can treat the symptoms of coronavirus in the same way as other common viral infections. Thus, you can buy OTC (Over-The-Counter) medicines for the treatment of painful throat and fever. Also, you need to drink plenty of liquids and get proper rest during infection.

Tips to avoid coronavirus infections

Here are some common tips that may help you stay safe from CoV.

  1. Make sure to clean your hands properly with disinfectant soap or hand sanitizer.
  2. Don’t put your hands or fingers on your face.
  3. Stay away from people who seem to be infected with viral infections.
  4. If you experience any of the symptoms, get your checkup immediately to prevent it from spreading.

So this was everything that you want to know about the treatment, causes, and symptoms of coronavirus. As the cases of people suffering from the 2019-nCoV are currently rising all across the world, it is best to take precautions.
